Acme 42 Toric lenses, with a combination of spherical and cylindrical surface, are used to correct vision problems of astigmats. Astigmatism is an refractive error of the eye. In this case, parallel rays of light from an external source do not meet on a single point of the eye. These lenses can also be worn in case of near-sightedness (Myopia) and far-sightedness (Hyperopia). People with astigmatism in only one eye can wear ordinary spherical lens for the other. To keep toric lenses in place, as they are not spherically symmetric, they are built a bit thicker which makes it heavier at the bottom. While blinking, the upper eyelid pushes the thicker zone downwards to make the lens rotate into the exact position.
